CD "The Sons of Bach" - Ingrid Blatter / Piano.

“So delightful to hear a lesser known Bach piece played. And well. Sprightly but just ever so slightly dark. ”

Beethoven Violin Sonatas / Jaime Mansilla & Emily Baker.

“Thrilling, hair-raising performance of a devilishly challenging work---it begins slowly, then around the 2:00 mark takes off like a rocket, slowing down only a few times along the way so that the soloists can take a breath. Wow!”

"The Sonatina Album" / by Sophie Clausel.

“Sophie's playing reminds me of how much I used to love playing the piano -- getting a new piece, practicing it again and again, and feeling sheer accomplishment after mastering it.

Beautiful!

CD " The Sonatina Album " / Sophie Clausel - Piano.

I searched for an old sonatina album by Phillipe Entrement to no avail BUT The Sonatina Album by Sophie Clausel is a beautiful CD replacement. Clementi, Kuhlau and Beethoven are well-chosen and I play it over and over again. It is gorgeous!

CD "L. V. Beethoven / Sonatinen" by Sophie Clausel.

The music is so fluid, so full of life. Delightful !! I play piano and this is what I aspired to. She is simple, not too full of herself but oh what an ear. How I want to start her fan club. I can only image that she is very intelligent, very sweet and very sure about her abilities on the piano.

This collection of small piano sonatas from the late 18th and early 19th centuries is performed with touching delicacy and simplicity by French pianist Sophie Clausel.

Often overlooked in favor of Beethoven's more expansive, later sonatas (such as the "Appassionata" and "Waldstein"), the Opus 49 sonatas found on this recording nonetheless exhibit the composer's mature style. Written just a few years after the death of W. A. Mozart, these sonatas demonstrate Beethoven's capacity to create charming music that clearly points to the earlier composer's influence.

Written around the same time as Beethoven's op. 49, Clementi's op. 36 Sonatinas (six in total, of which nos. 2 and 3 are heard on this recording) are the picture of grace and elegance. Thoroughly embracing the style of the time, these works are wholly Classical in that the music conveys a sense of proportion and simplicity, providing a sonic situation ideal for relaxation and contemplation.

Listeners might be surprised by the beginning of German-Danish composer Friedrich Kuhlau's Sonatina op.88 no 3 in A mi... , written in 1827, which sounds remarkably similar to the opening of Beethoven's bagatelle for piano most commonly known as "Für Elise," written in 1810. This similarity no doubt comprised part of Clausel's decision to pair these two composers on her recording. The third movement of Kuhlau's sonatina is a bouncy, gypsy-esque dance.

The combination of Beethoven's charm, Clementi's simplicity, and Kuhlau's playfulness, plus the intelligent and sensitive performances by Clausel make this recording ideal for the listener seeking modest stimulation and simple beauty.

Arpa Barroca Four Kit Collection.

Beautiful Touch !

These pieces are just right for both attentive listening and for background music. I tire of piano transcriptions of harpsichord originals; Ms. Brougel's harp is the perfect remedy. I'm glad I bought all four volumes.

CD - J.S. Bach Keyboard Music Vol. 2 / Ingrid Blatter - Piano.

Soul-satisfying interpretation !

In more than 50 years of hearing and playing Bach's music, I have never come across a performance that impressed me more than Ingrid Blatter's in this recording. My ideal musician does this: He or she disappears, and only the music remains. And this is what happens for me when I hear these splendid interpretations. With obviously enormous technical reserves at hand, Ms. Blatter never shows off, never draws attention to her playing, but instead gives this complex music the attention and respect that it deserves, at every moment. It is a joy to hear this artist completely give herself to the music -- for us, the listeners. Beautifully recorded, this album is among my favorites of all time. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Delightful music from the Renaissance Era, effortlessly and elegantly performed by Diego Navarrete, of whom I knew nothing until I ordered this fine album. Great selection; mostly staple music of course, but also a few unknown gems. Highly recommended!

CD "The Renaissance Guitar / Diego Navarrete"

CD "The Baroque Guitar / Diego Navarrete"

As in his recording of Baroque selections, Mr. Navarrete here plays some familiar tunes with respect, utterly crystalline technique, and no showing-off, though he is clearly capable of showing off, should he want to! These often bittersweet, soulful tunes receive the kind of treatment they deserve. And they deserve a lot of hearing, especially when played this well. A recording to return to repeatedly.

Baroque music offers the temptation to let virtuosity overpower musical taste, but Mr. Navarrete, though obviously capable of virtuoso display, never succumbs to this temptation. His performance of these mostly well-known Baroque gems are lucid, restrained, and elegant. For myself, I relish this music-foremost approach, and I find this recording a delight.
